6th Street Playhouse productions have often received the benefit of artistic leadership by talented artists who have devoted themselves to their craft. One such individual is choreographer Tony Gianchetta, who recently choreographed Cabaret for the 6th Street Playhouse, and will now oversee the dance productions in our season opener, Kiss Me Kate. Anthony (Tony) Gianchetta is well known locally for his years as resident choreographer at the Marquee Theater. He also choreographed The Wizard of Oz, Kiss Me Kate, and West Side Story for SRT, and was choreographer and dance instructor at Celeste Conservatory.
In the clip below, Tony is interviewed by Bridget Palmer about the upcoming production of Kiss Me Kate, which opens in the GK Hardt Theatre on August 5th.
Tony spent four years in London as a director, teacher and choreographer; he has done several shows with Oakland’s Woodminster Ampitheater and 20 plus years with the Marquee Theater and Santa Rosa Players. Anthony’s varied background encompasses performing in nightclubs and musicals, his own children’s TV show, and teaching dance from Utah to California. Tony was also a dance therapist in Idaho where he taught drama and directed plays with hospital patients. Anthony has been nominated for an award by the Sonoma Arts Council.
Kiss Me Kate plays August 5 – September 4, 2011.
